Who Is Philippa Gregory?

Philippa Gregory is one of the world’s most popular historical novelists. The English author was born 9 January 1954.

She wrote her first novel, Wideacre, when she was completing her literature PhD. It sold worldwide, starting a new era for historical fiction. ‘Her flair for blending history and imagination developed into a signature style and Philippa went on to write many bestselling novels, including The Other Boleyn Girl and The White Queen.’ (via) Her novels have been adapted for television and film.

In 2016, she was presented with the Outstanding Contribution to Historical Fiction Award by the Historical Writers’ Association. In 2018, she received an Honorary Platinum Award from Nielsen for achieving significant lifetime sales. Gregory was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2021 Birthday Honours for services to literature and to charity in the UK and the Gambia.

In 2023 she published her groundbreaking history book, Normal Women – 900 Years of Making History, which was also released as a podcast, a teen edition and a series for young children.
