As I mentioned, we are going to use our prompts to practice our craft.

(NOTE: You will receive your monthly prompts as always, but this year I would like you to focus on specific aspects of your novel. This is, of course entirely, optional. You can also use the prompts to free-write.)

The viewpoint

This month, I want you to focus on viewpoint. Viewpoint is the filter we put over the story. We see the story through a character/s eyes. This influences how we experience the story. It is ‘tainted’ by their experiences and motives.

When we use fewer viewpoints in a story, we don’t always have the opportunity to experience a scene through a different pair of eyes. This is what I want you to do. Go to your scenes and choose a different viewpoint character. Write the same scene but using a different viewpoint or viewpoint character.

Use the prompts to explore different points of view. These are not necessarily scenes that will be used in your book, but rather scenes that will help you brainstorm ideas for conflict that advance your plot and force character growth.
