As I mentioned, we are going to use our prompts to practice our craft.

(NOTE: You will receive your monthly prompts as always, but this year I would like you to focus on specific aspects of your novel. This is, of course entirely, optional. You can also the prompts to free-write.)

The conflict

This month, I want you to focus on conflict. We need conflict in fiction, but that is sometimes tricky because we misunderstand what conflict is. It is not only fist fights and car chases.

We have two kinds of conflict. Inner and outer conflict. Outer conflict is the car chases and flying bullets, but the inner conflict is where the character must face their shortcomings, fears and worries. Start by listing the inner and outer conflict you have planned or are using in your book.

Use the prompts to spend time with these elements. These are not necessarily scenes that will be used in your book, but rather scenes that will help you brainstorm ideas for conflict that advance your plot and force character growth.
