Tip: you are who you say you are

When we start out on our writing journey, we are hesitant to call ourselves writers. After all, what is it that makes you a writer? When do you get to claim the title? The answer is simple. The act of writing is what makes you a writer. If you put words on the page, you are a writer.

Start calling yourself a writer. In the beginning, you may want to say it softly to yourself and that is fine. The more you write and the more comfortable you become with putting your thoughts into words, creating new worlds and characters, the more confidence this identity will instil in you. And then when you are ready you can shout it from the rooftops. Take ownership of the title. Make the identity yours and write and write and write some more.

It seems like a small thing, but the impact is big. Thinking of yourself as a writer makes it a little easier to sit down at your desk. Calling yourself a writer strengthens the idea in your head. It makes your dreams come true. Go ahead, say it. I am a writer.
