July – Getting Unstuck
Month 7: Burnout
Hello Writer
This year, I want to focus on the most common challenges we face as writers.
Every month, along with a daily prompt, I’d like to share an exercise that helps us deal with challenges like writer’s block, perfectionism, procrastination, and imposter syndrome.
Getting started
Sometimes the page is blank because our creativity is a little on the short side. We’re tired, even burnt out. This month, we’re replenishing the fuel. This is not something you can force, but it is also not as hard as you think. I do think the secret ingredient is curiosity. We’re calling on it this month.
Exercise:
Go somewhere new. This can be a park, market, café, museum and jot down sensory details: sights, sounds, smells, textures.
Why does this work?
Inspiration flows from going out and noticing the world and collecting tiny sparks for your writing.
Next month we will talk about the resistance.
Good luck, writer.
