i dunno — i’ve seen some first lines that are, well, they just don’t follow the supposed “rules” for first lines but the book turned out to be very good anyhow.
AND —
hmmm … this kind of thinking at any point in the writing process (up until the final draft and how can you ever be sure that something IS the final draft until it is finished?) is only fuel for the Inner Critic monsters to feed on so they can excrete Failure-thought into you while you work.
