David Gemmell was a British author of heroic fantasy. He was best known for his debut novel, Legend. A former journalist and newspaper editor, Gemmell had his first work of fiction published in 1984. He went on to write over thirty novels. Gemmell’s novels included morally grey heroes, pacey action scenes, and themes of honour, courage and redemption. According to The Guardian: ‘Gemmell once summed up the content of his novels with these words: “Love, friendship, honour, courage and redemption”.’
