Jackie Collins Quotes

  1. If you want to be a writer, stop talking about it and sit down and write!
  2. I think I’m a born storyteller. Inspiration is all around me. I can read a newspaper article and come up with an idea for a book.
  3. I write about real people in disguise. If anything, my characters are toned down-the truth is much more bizarre.
  4. The biggest critics of my books are people who never read them.
  5. Authors change publishers because it’s like being married for a long time and suddenly you want to go out and have a wild affair! No, not seriously, sometimes the deal is more interesting with a new publisher, and other times they have more enthusiasm for your books.
  6. I have this theory that people in Hollywood don’t read. They read Vanity Fair and then consider themselves terribly well read. I think I can basically write about anybody without getting caught.
  7. I have written 20 books, and each one is like having a baby. Writing is not easy; some people want to write books but just can’t put a story together. I can put together a story that interests both me and my readers.
  8. I really fall in love with my characters, even the bad ones. I love getting together with them. They tell me what to do; they take me on a wild and wonderful trip.
  9. I should be writing until I drop. I’ll be a little old lady of 106. I never see myself stopping what I do because it’s my passion.
  10. I’ve come a long way! My message to women is girls can do anything.

Jackie Collins was an English novelist. She wrote every one of her manuscripts by hand. With over half a billion copies of her books sold in more than 40 countries, and with 31 New York Times bestsellers to her credit, she was one of the world’s top-selling authors. Eight of her novels were adapted for the screen. Her Lucky Santangelo series was popular and includes the titles, Chances and Lucky. Other massive bestsellers were Hollywood Wives and The World is Full of Married Men. She wrote provocative romantic thrillers, which were liberally salted with sex, crime, and entertainment-industry gossip. She explored the corruptions of Hollywood and featured glamorous characters with lavish lifestyles. Collins was awarded an OBE (Order of the British Empire) by the Queen of England in 2013 for her services to literature and charity.
