5 Quite Interesting Facts About Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl was a British novelist, short story writer, poet, fighter pilot and screenwriter. In this post, we share 5 quite interesting facts about Roald Dahl.

13 September is known as Roald Dahl Day.

Roald Dahl was born 13 September 1916, and died 23 November 1990. The British novelist became one of the world’s best-selling authors.

He is well-known for his children’s novels, which include Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The BFG.

  1. Dahl wrote 21 children’s books. Many have been adapted into films.
  2. He wrote more than 60 short stories, including macabre stories for adults. The Mystery Writers of America presented Dahl with three Edgar Awards for these: the collection Someone Like You; the story “The Landlady”; and an episode of Tales of the Unexpected based on “Skin”.
  3. More than 250 million copies of his books have been sold worldwide.
  4. Dahl served in the Second World War as an RAF fighter pilot, and later as an intelligence officer.
  5. He also wrote the screenplays for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice.
