Roald Dahl was born 13 September 1916, and died 23 November 1990. The British novelist became one of the world’s best-selling authors.
He is well-known for his children’s novels, which include Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and The BFG.
5 Quite Interesting Facts About Roald Dahl
- Dahl wrote 21 children’s books. Many have been adapted into films.
- He wrote more than 60 short stories
, including macabre stories for adults. The Mystery Writers of America presented Dahl with three Edgar Awards for these: the collection Someone Like You; the story “The Landlady”; and an episode of Tales of the Unexpected based on “Skin”.
- More than 250 million copies of his books have been sold worldwide.
- Dahl served in the Second World War as an RAF fighter pilot, and later as an intelligence officer.
- He also wrote the screenplays for Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the James Bond movie You Only Live Twice.
