Johanna Spyri was a Swiss author of children’s stories. She is best known for her book Heidi. This classic of children’s literature is popular all over the world. The novel has been translated into hundreds of languages and has never been out of print. She wrote many other stories and though some were successful, none of them matched Heidi for popularity or longevity. Her books were originally written in German an translated into English at the end of the 19th century, or the early 1900s.
