Book Review – Pretty Girls

by Karin Slaughter (Century) ISBN: 9781780893556

‘You couldn’t turn on the TV without hearing about the missing teenage girl. Sixteen years old. White. Middle class. Very pretty. No one ever seemed quite as outraged when an ugly woman went missing.’

Nothing I write will prepare you for the experience of reading this book.
Pretty Girls is the story of three beautiful sisters whose lives are destroyed when one of them goes missing. The two that remain watch their loving parents’ marriage disintegrate, their mother stricken with grief, their father taking his life, their family ripped apart.

Twenty years later, the youngest sister’s husband is murdered and everything unravels again. How can one day change everything you ever thought you knew about someone?

Karin Slaughter has always stunned me with her capacity to shock me – even when I know she has something mind-blowing up her sleeve. If I’m just brave enough to turn the page and when she knows I’m too terrified to look away, she’ll show me. I could not put this book down and I read it in an afternoon.
