Book Review – The Identicals

Elin Hilderbrand has written an enthralling novel that explores being born a twin. The Identicals takes us on a journey of love, hate, betrayal, and discovery.

The story is set on two small islands, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, where Harper and Tabitha manage to wreak havoc in the lives of everyone they come into contact with.  Brought together by tragedy – their father’s passing, the twins soon realise that their resentment towards each other is futile and that they need one another to get through the emotional labyrinth called grief.

The book started off dreary and overly detailed, but ten pages into it, I refused to put it down.  Not only was I engrossed in the narrative, but I couldn’t wait to see what Harper or Tabitha would get up to next.  I devoured the book in one day and refused to sleep at night because I needed to see how the story would end.

This was my first encounter with one of Hilderbrand’s novels and I have to say that I am hooked. The Identicals is an awesome summer read. Get it for your girlfriends, sisters, and any other women in your life.
