Kristin Cast Quotes

  1. I am an extreme outliner. (I feel like that could be a show. Extreme Outliner – Writing Edition. No?) I usually write a page about the overall feel and plot of the story followed by a three to five act outline. After the acts outline is finished, I’ll break it down into a chapter by chapter outline.
  2. PC and I have adopted this method because it’s the best way we’ve found to keep us going in the right direction. It’s also easier to make changes when you can see each chapter and know how the rest of the story will be impacted if something is added or removed.
  3. My love for physical books will never die. The smell of the pages and flipping through them, seeing how much of the book I have left to enjoy before it ends, they’re parts of the reading experience that I never want to give up.
  4. I love both outlining and revising. It’s the writing of the first draft that I absolutely do not enjoy. Funny since writing the book makes up the bulk of my job.
  5. [My mother] has really taught me to trust my creative instincts and to let my writing flow without judgment.
  6. Give yourself grace. Missed writing days, being emotional over rejections, not reaching word count or page count goals, needing space away from projects and people—these are just a handful of things that you’ll encounter on your writing journey. When they come about, be kind to yourself. You’re doing your best.
  7. I have to have an outline of what will happen. If not, I feel like I have no direction and am running around like a crazy person. To write the outline, I have a brainstorming session with family. When I say my ideas out loud, instead of writing them down by myself, I become even more creative and motivated.
  8. You definitely just have to start writing in order to start writing. That sounds funny and simple, but I understand that it can be really intimidating. The way I started my first novel was to write an outline for each chapter. This can be as detailed as you want it to be. It’s yours.
  9. Pull out that pen or start clicking that keyboard and do you!
