John Connolly was born in Ireland. He studied English at Trinity College, Dublin and journalism at Dublin City University. He worked as a freelance journalist for the The Irish Times, and has, at various points in his life, worked as a barman, a local government official, a waiter, and a dogsbody at Harrods.
John lives with his South African partner, Jennifer Ridyard, in Dublin. They collaborated on The Chronicles of the Invaders, a fantasy trilogy for teen readers. He divides his time between home and the United States where the Charlie Parker mysteries are set.
