Book Review – Torn

Torn is the second book in Hocking’s Trylle Trilogy. It follows the success of Switched featuring Wendy Everly, a teenager with attitude.

Wendy has always felt that she was different. That was because she was switched at birth. After reuniting with her true family in Förening, Wendy has to learn how to become a queen and discover her hidden powers. Then Wendy is kidnapped again. This time by enemies of Förening.

Wendy meets smouldering Loki and her heart is torn between two love interests. Finn (the love interest from Switched) is not the right match for Wendy, and Loki is from the enemy camp.

Wendy has to deal with a new threat that will not only destabilise the kingdom but will endanger her life. She has to grow up and make big-girl decisions. Will she have to forsake love for duty?

Unfortunately, Wendy has become a wimp. She is continuously worried about doing the right thing and her internal monologues had me groaning.

Hocking fails dismally with this book. Her language is immature, her protagonist weak. The only character who had me believing that the book was worth finishing was Loki. If you are 16-years-old you may enjoy it. For the rest, don’t bother.
