Happy Birthday, Charlotte Runcie, born on 3 July.
Charlotte Runcie Quotes
- Finish it! You have to get all the way to the end of the story before you have any idea what you’re doing. (Curtis Brown Creative)
- I think we probably all have certain themes and concerns that flavour our lives, about which we’re mostly unaware, but if someone else was writing about them, those themes would be clear to everyone except us. That’s how I feel about my characters. (Curtis Brown Creative)
- I didn’t become a critic because I like passing judgement on people. I became a critic because I love theatre, books, music and art, and I wanted to see as much of all of that as possible, even though, in my early twenties, I didn’t have much money to pay for any of it. (LitHub)
- To write a novel about critics was to write about people who care very deeply about things, and who expose themselves by doing so in public. (LitHub)
- Any interview is a transaction, but people can’t help being people. Sometimes a connection happens without either of you realising it. (Bring the House Down)
