Once upon a time…
When Writers Write first became interested in social media, we did not know what we were doing or where we were going. We did know we needed to be involved, though, because something important and exciting was happening in the way people were communicating.
We could see that traditional advertising and public relations efforts were not going to work in the writing and publishing industry for long. We had no real objectives other than we knew how crucial the Internet was for our future as a company.
We were lucky that we could experiment. I was prepared to spend a lot of time learning what people wanted. We started with a Facebook page and not much else.
Now…
Today, Writers Write has a social media following of more than 200 000. More than 70% of our business is sourced from the Internet, including our blog, social media platforms, and our website.
Social Media is the Wild West of Marketing. Brands, businesses, and organisations are jostling with individuals to make news, friends, connections, and build communities in the virtual space. Social media is not a selling tool, but if you use it correctly, you will gain a following, create awareness for your product, and drive consumers to your brand.
It is important to note that Social Media changes almost daily, and it takes a dedicated team, or individual, to watch what is happening in this brave new world and be prepared to change along with it.
How dedicated are you?
