Wildlife Heroes by Julie Scardina and Jeff Flocken (Running Press) ISBN 978-0-7624-4319-2
This coffee table book has crisp, beautiful photographs of animals that are vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered.
Once you’ve paged through the book and learnt about animals you have never heard of, and those you have heard too much about, because of poaching, you can read about the conservationists. Those people who have made it their life’s work to protect these creatures for their and your great grandchildren to admire and appreciate.
The book is divided into the elements: earth, water, air and fire. Each section has stories about a particular animal and the conservationist who is dedicated to saving their lives as well as broader topics such as climate change and ocean degradation. From the okapi to the koala, the rhinoceros to the seahorse, the variety is startling.
Once you have been impassioned, the final chapter details ‘how one can help’. I certainly am inspired to do so. Highly recommended.
