World Book Day is a yearly event on 23 April. It is organised by UNESCO to promote reading, publishing, and copyright.
The date is also symbolic for world literature because:
- Cervantes, Shakespeare, and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega all died on 23 April 1616.
- 23 April is also taken as Shakespeare’s birthday (he was baptised on 26 April 1564, and his actual date of birth is unknown).
