Olivia’s Enchanted Summer by Lyn Gardner (Nosy Crow)
The author was born in London, and now lives in Richmond Park with her family. She is also a theatre critic for The Guardian. Besides the books about Olivia’s adventures, she has written two other children’s books, Into the Woods and Out of the Woods.
This novel is the fourth book in the series about Olivia, a gymnast, and the adventures she shares and memories she makes whilst working in the circus. Olivia and her friends are performing at the Edinburgh Festival.
But things don’t go as well as Olivia had imagined; the circus performers end up having to sleep in their bus, and there is a thief who wants to ruin Olivia’s life! At the end of the festival, due to horrible weather, Olivia wonders if her sad summer can still turn into an enchanted one.
I found that this book a fantastic light read; the characters and settings were written with much care and attention to detail. The book explained to me how true friends will never leave you behind, and how you can make your summer an enchanted one, just by doing the things you love with the ones you love.
