Sallie Tisdale

Literary Birthday – 15 April – Sallie Tisdale

Happy Birthday, Sallie Tisdale, born 15 April 1957.

  1. What’s the secret? You don’t write. You just get out of the way.
  2. It is our peculiar punishment that we know things change and we want this to be otherwise.
  3. To write the essay is to be haunted by our own lies. No story is the whole story. Everything we know is shadowed by what we’ve missed, forgotten, or been afraid to see.
  4. How I became a better writer was that I kept writing.

Sallie Tisdale is an American author. She has written nine books, including Advice for Future Corpses (and Those Who Love Them), Talk Dirty to Me, Stepping Westward, and Women of the Way. Her work has appeared in Harper’s, Antioch Review, Conjunctions, Threepenny Review, The New Yorker, and Tricycle, among other journals.
