Book Review – Private Gold

by James Patterson with Jassy Mackenzie (Penguin Random House UK) ISBN 9781786531353

Private Gold is co-written by Jassy Mackenzie. She is well known for her Jade de Jong private investigative series. Her stories are based on home soil and I find them easy to relate to.

Steyn, a hit man for hire, is neck deep in some serious shady business. He has to cover his tracks. His has a talent for killing and covering it up. He didn’t bargain on meeting his match in the form of Joey Montague and Isobel Collins.

Joey and Isobel, well in over their heads, uncover illegal mining, smuggling and human trafficking. They find ties which reach from American all the way to South African Minsters of parliament and beyond the borders of South Africa into the rest of Africa. Joey and Isobel’s lives are in danger.

BookShots is a perfect description for the speed at which Private Gold hits the floor running and just keeps going.

The typical South African setting and use of familiar terms such as zama zamas make it an enjoyable, quick, easy read.
