Book Review – Orphan X

by Gregg Hurwitz (Michael Joseph) ISBN: 9781405910712

Orphan X is a complex and clever novel that introduces us to the highly dangerous and well-trained, Evan Smoak. Part of an elite group of orphans who were trained by the US government in black operations, he is a lethal machine.

However behind that hard facade lies a decent human being. A trait so strong that it forces him to break with the programme he belongs to and live life on his terms, after the only person he cares about is killed.

Now he lives a life away from the prying eyes of technology, helping those in need with his enigmatic catchphrase “Do you need my help? So far he has managed to stay undetected by his former employers, but this soon changes on his new case. Someone is on to his identity despite all of his efforts to stay under the radar.

This book sets the scene for a new action hero and is written in a fast, punchy style with a tight, believable plot. I can’t wait to read the next instalment in what is sure to be a franchise along the lines of Jack Reacher and Jason Bourne.
