One Of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus (Penguin) ISBN 978-0-141-37563-2
Social Media and high school shouldn’t go together.
When the creator of a damaging high school gossip app dies in detention very few people are grief stricken. They’ve all been hurt by his stories at some point or another.
There were four other kids with the victim in detention that day: the Yale hopeful, the jock, the prom queen and the juvenile delinquent and they all have secrets. Who was desperate enough to keep their stories out of the gossip mill?
I loved this story. It is dark and disturbing with a hint of glittery nail polish. I found the multiple first-person viewpoints a little confusing right in the beginning (I tend to skip chapter headings) but once I found the rhythm it worked well.
At first I thought this was just another high-school story, but it soon turned into a dark story that had me glued to the pages.
