Book Review – Night School

Night School by Lee Child (Bantam Press) ISBN: 9780593073919

In this prequel to the present series, the infamous loner Jack Reacher is still in the army. It is 1996 and Reacher is sent back to Night School, which is a smoke screen for a top-secret mission to Hamburg.

Quite dramatically, and not unexpectedly because Jack Reacher is involved, the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

He is part of a group that includes an FBI agent and a CIA operative. A jihadist sleeper cell, consisting of four men in Hamburg, is awaiting important instructions. One of the men is a double agent for the United States. He has alerted his handlers about a meeting with an American who wants $100 million for something he has to sell. Given the price tag, they assume the secret will be important enough to change the world.

Will Reacher and his friends save the day? Will the sleeper cell prevail? Who is the mysterious American? Read the book to find out.

I enjoyed going back in time to find out more about a younger Reacher who still had something to lose.
