Book Review – Make Your Bed

Make Your Bed: Small things that can change your life… and maybe the world by William H. McRaven (Penguin) ISBN 978-0-718-18886-3

“If you want to change the world, start off by making your bed.”

This book caught my interest as I had just recently seen a post about it on Facebook. Who would’ve thought that such a simple task as making your bed every morning could change your life….and maybe the world?

Admiral William McRaven shares the ten principles he learned during his training as a Navy Seal with the graduating class at the University of Texas. He shares how these principles helped him overcome many challenges not just during his training but throughout his life.

What really resonated with me is one of the principles he talks about: “you can go it alone”. Sometimes you do need someone to help you paddle to the finish line and that no matter how tough life gets you never ever quit. He says “life is not fair, so drive on”. I think, ironically, and in my experience, when we choose to accept that life is tough it does become easier.

Just ten good, practical, inspirational and timeless principles that you can live by every day, share with your children, family and friends. So start by making your bed every day.
