Hooray! Thoko written and illustrated by Niki Daly (Jacana) ISBN 978-1-4314-2525-9
This was a complete hit in my home. My son loved every story. The book consists of four short stories about a little girl named Thoko.
Thoko takes us on adventures where we find out about her life and the lessons that she learns. I enjoyed the fact that the book is local and the sense of family is important, which I find is true for South Africans. The illustrated lessons show the importance of strong morals and values.
The book is well-written and easy for young children to understand. The stories are short and sweet, so my son’s attention did not wander when I was reading to him. The only thing he mentioned was that he would have liked the pictures to be in colour.
I was so impressed that I googled Niki Daly and was happy to find that the author has published many books. I am a fan and will definitely recommend this book, and Niki Daly as an author, for children to read.
