Pearl S. Buck was an American writer and novelist who spent most of her life before 1934 in China. Buck’s notable works include The Good Earth (1931), a best-selling and Pulitzer Prize-winning tale of a Chinese peasant, and its sequels Sons (1932), and A House Divided (1935). She won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1938 “for her rich and truly epic descriptions of peasant life in China and for her biographical masterpieces”. In 1973, Buck was inducted into the National Women’s Hall of Fame.
