Â
Joanna Stafford, the heroine, is a nun who describes her life in the abbey with amazing clarity. I could picture the secret passages, rooms they used to do tapestries in and pray in as clearly as if I were living there.
Â
The story is set in the fifteenth century, and Joanna proves to be a brave young rebel. She lands up in the Tower. The Stafford line is noble, and her wonderful father lands up on the rack. Her secret assignation is to locate a very special crown worn by a King in battle. Her reward will be to have her father freed.Â
Â
She is desperate to find the crown. There are startling revelations about the crown. I shouted out loud when I read what it was likely to be. I read this book from cover to cover, always excited by the colourful situations Joanna gets into, including a fancy dress to which she was not invited.
Â
I loved this book. It is a marvellous read and I look forward to reading more from Nancy Bilyeau.Â
