Jim Thompson Quotes

1. There are 32 ways to write a story, and I’ve used every one, but there is only one plot – things are not as they seem.
2. There are things that have to be forgotten if you want to go on living.
3. When life attains a crisis, man’s focus narrows. […] The world becomes a stage of immediate concern, swept free of illusion.

Jim Thompson was an American author and screenwriter, known for his hardboiled crime fiction. Thompson wrote more than thirty novels, including The Killer Inside Me, The Grifters, and A Hell of a Woman. Thompson turned the crime genre into literature and art, featuring unreliable narrators, odd structure, and the quasi-surrealistic inner narratives of the last thoughts of his dying or dead characters. A number of Thompson’s books were adapted as popular films, including The Getaway and The Grifters.
