We have had a chocolate cooking frenzy at home, just like an episode of Masterchef South Africa.

‘The only chocolate compendium you’ll ever need’ is the perfect book for all chocolate lovers. Each page has a recipe on one side and a picture on the other. Lauren Floodgate has written nine books and works as a freelance journalist for several British magazines.

There is a short introduction on the history of chocolate, an explanation of the different types of chocolate, and an overview on how to make chocolate decorations. With each recipe is a referral to a variation, for example the chocolate berry roll can effortlessly be changed into a honeycomb chocolate roll. There are ten chapters from cookies, mousses to petits fours and drinks, and 500 ideas to choose from.

All the recipes are easy and the ingredients are available in South Africa. We tried out the mouth-watering rich chocolate truffles, the frozen chocolate oranges and the ‘rocky road slice’, squares of chocolate, with digestive biscuits, miniature marshmallows, walnuts and cherries.
